THE MOOD: Big and Bold AF

The Mood is an exploration of some of the prominent energies at play each month. Rather than detailing all of the specific transits and aspects over the course of the month, The Mood takes a birds-eye view of the astrological weather, giving space for all the faster-moving transits and aspects to add nuance and spice to the bigger energies at play. The Mood is an art, a vibe, an intuition, and a snack-sized bite of the zeitgeist. I hope it offers an approach to astrological writing and interpretation that is focused, thoughtful, and shamelessly creative. Enjoy!

There’s something about June that screams shameless. Mars’ just entered its home sign of Aries, chest-bumping Jupiter in greeting, and these two planets together bring a renewed motivation to make big moves and get shit done. Under this weather, it may feel much easier to put the pedal to the metal and go for what we want without guilt or hesitation. As a brazen and embolden Mars pushes us forward, Jupiter points us in the direction of our truth and ideas about the world. Together, these two dynamos give us immense energy, will, and fighting spirit to boldly throw down for what we believe in. Caution is thrown to the wind. Our inner hype person comes out. It is not chill.

All of this swagger has loads of potential to boost our confidence sky-high – and also to fuck things up epically. Mars tackles Chiron mid-month, and this high-impact collision may inflame our existing scars around individualism and self-interest. This transit can trigger things like aggro outbursts, myopic rants about individual freedom, and a me-first mentality. Chiron has been hanging out in Aries since 2019 and has been showing us our wounds related to aggression and toxic individualism. We’ve seen this during the pandemic in the rise of rage and resistance towards collective health measures like masking and vaccination. It continues as we navigate a choose-your-own-adventure phase of the pandemic, in which immunocompromised folks have been left to fend for themselves and recent COVID-19 relief bills have withered in the Senate.

At its most healing, however, Chiron asks for vulnerability, not for impulsive blaming and shaming. In this weather, we may bravely face how our self-centered behavior, both consciously and unconsciously, may be causing harm to others. Moving through the world in a way that is honest and rich in personal integrity helps right our relationship with ourselves. Use this weather to:

  • Be honest with your motivations – When are your actions motivated by your wounds, hangups, and inner insecurities? When and how may you have prioritized your self-interest in a way that caused pain, stress, or hurt to others?

  • Be honest with your yes and your no – When did you say yes when you should have said no, and vice versa? Are you being honest with others about your own capacity, wants, and needs? Are you taking care of yourself so that you can adequately support others?

  • Be honest with your energy – Who are your efforts serving? Where are you spinning your wheels? Are you able to show up for yourself and for others with intention and integrity?

We’ve got a dose of super-powered bravery, brazenness, and shamelessness this month. How will you high-five it and use it for the highest good?
