THE MOOD: Condensed and Cross-Eyed

March’s Mood, to me, feels weird – it’s a notable vibe departure from the astrology of recent times which has felt so urgent, boiling, and rife with explosive force. In contrast, March’s astrology is concentrated and opaque, rich with clouds of condensed milk. While we’ve become accustomed to a weather of tension, March shows us a weather of profound fusion.

In astrological terms, it’s all about conjunctions this month. The planets are moving in packs, all bundled in the signs of Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, and towards the end of the month, Aries. As planets conjunct each other in these signs, they can operate like cliques. Their powers intensify in their comradery; they fuse in their sense of style, personality, and approach. In being so close, however, they can also lose their ability to see each other clearly. Our views may be more myopic. We can become cross-eyed if we lack the distance needed for reflection, criticality, and clarity.

But let’s get specific, shall we? March opens with raw edges in the form of a Venus-Mars-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. This conjunction harbors the intensity of other Pluto contacts that we have seen over the past years, and our drives (Mars) and desires (Venus) get existential, cathartic, earth-shattering, and maybe even ruthless (Pluto). Paired with a nearby Mercury-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius, our wants and motivations – and our thinking around them – may become unshakeable at this time. This, of course, can be for better or for worse. Fixity can be grounded and steady, or inflexible and mired. How will you navigate your own iron will?

The raw edge softens as the Sun conjuncts Jupiter on March 4, and begins to foster a mood whose extremes tend towards optimism – a strange transition indeed. By mid-month, it feels like floodgates have broken open, deluging us with a sense of idealism, hope, and wonder. By the time that Mercury enters Pisces on March 9 and the Sun conjuncts Neptune on March 12, we are completely awash in divine, syrupy surrealism. How could we not, with such a pileup in Pisces? Venus and Mars’ squares Uranus on March 18 and 20 break the fourth wall of this dreamscape, offering a momentary electric shock of realness and definition.

Our vision continues to focus as the Sun enters Aries on March 20, welcoming in the spring solstice. Spring always offers a breath of fresh air, and when Mercury enters Aries and Venus conjuncts Saturn on March 27, the Mood continues to shift from languorous to vigorous. Aries brings clarity and direction, and Venus-Saturn in Aquarius shines a hard light on what is real; both bring no bullshit. We close the month still a bit cross-eyed, perhaps, yet now led by a clique of light and tough love.
